The suspect forced the victim to hand over an article of jewelry before fleeing the scene in a light-colored Toyota vehicle.

SPRING FORWARD MARCH 13, 2022!

Gina Giordan

Don't forget to SPRING FORWARD on Sunday, March 13, 2022

We just wanted to remind you to spring your clocks forward in a few weeks.

Daylight Saving Time will begin at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 13, 2022 in most areas of the U.S. We officially consider ourselves “saving daylight hours,” so, in your time zone, you’ll be on “Daylight Time” (EDT, CDT, MDT, or PDT).

This is the most dreaded of the time changes because it feels as though we’re losing an hour of sleep. So, if you normally wake up at 6 am, you’ll be rising at 5 am even though the clock face says 6 am.

While the "official" change happens at 2 a.m. Sunday, it's okay if you take care of it Saturday night.
So, check the microwave, find the remote for the VCR (does anyone still use those?), and look for any other device in your house that isn't smart enough to change the time on its own.

VALENTINES DAY IN THE 21ST CENTURY...

VALENTINE'S DAY in the 21st Century...

DOES TECH TURNOFF = TRUE LOVE?

IMG_4280.jpeg

Valentine's Day.

Each year on February 14th, many people all over the world, exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “Valentine.”

The day of romance we call Valentine's Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century but, has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia.

For some people, V-Day is just another "commercial" holiday that ultimately feels more like an obligation, jacks up the cost of roses, chocolate and reminds single people they may end up alone forever?

Well ... not so fast my cynical friends.

In today's tech consumed world, the once simple act of experiencing an in-depth human connection is getting harder and harder to find.

Can you remember what a real human connection is?  Real eye to eye contact.  Heart to heart communication.  Soul to soul exchange.

This real connection takes time.  Dare I say, it takes WORK!   What?  More work?

In today's day and age, if you are fortunate enough to find another person you actually want to see face to face.  No, selfie to selfie does not count!  Your next step is to actually peel yourself away from all modern technology and make a real effort to connect with a person...That means (gasp) you need to put down the phone...wait no, turn off the phone!  Ok.  Baby steps.  How about just turn over the phone?

There is NO denying it...TECH TURNOFF is a serious challenge.

In 2016, Valentines Day has taken on a very different meaning.  The once holiday of professing your love with a bouquet of flowers and chocolates has been trumped just simple human connection.

Moving forward, when it comes to love, the real question you should ask yourself isn't just,  "Do I really like this person?"

The real test for your inner love meter is,  "Can I fathom TECH TURNOFF with this person?"  Do I feel the urge to turn off the phone?  Can I realistically take my mind off the social media rat race and focus on this one person?

Now, when it comes to relationships, the tech turn-off should be a no brainer.  If you and your significant other are finding it hard to turn off (or at least turn away) from the phone to share a meal together and actually connect...If you are finding the "tech turn- off" a serious challenge, then maybe you need to work at the relationship or just simply turn away?

Valentines Day is the perfect opportunity to show your loved ones you care enough to TURN OFF the tech and TURN ON the romance.

HAPPY TURNOFF TECH DAY people!

WHY YOU NEED AN EMERGENCY "GO BAG" ASAP!

Gina Giordan

GO BAG.jpg

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” ― Benjamin Franklin

“I will prepare and some day my chance will come.” ― Abraham Lincoln

"Expect the best, plan for the worst!"  That's my motto to live by.  In today's world, with exploding deadly lava,  wildfires, catastrophic hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks (the list goes on)  it's a good idea to prepare you and your loved ones for any emergency situation.

Friday, June 1st, is the official mark of the 2018 Hurricane season.  What if during an emergency you are separated from a loved one?  Do you have a plan?  Does your child know what to do if they are separated from you during a natural disaster?  It's no surprise during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, there were more than 5000 cases of missing children after the storm.  Hurricane Katrina survivor, Marceline, shared her harrowing story with "Save the Children."  She was separated from her 2-year-old daughter for a week.  Would your child have the necessary skills to find their way back to you?

These days, relying on our cell phones for everything means most of us would have trouble remembering actual contact numbers or addresses without using their cell phone.  Do you know all your loved ones direct contact numbers off the top of your head?  What about the actual address of an emergency evacuation route or bus stop?  Sometimes a nasty Nor'easter doesn't come with a timely warning and can leave you without power and water for days. No power means your local stores and gas stations are closed.  Are you prepared if a violent storm hit tonight leaving you without power for weeks?  Preparing yourself and your loved ones ahead of time, for any emergency is key.

For starters, make sure you actually have a list of cell phone numbers and addresses of the important people in your life.  That means in addition to loved ones you have contact numbers for care takers, doctors, emergency care, hospitals etc.  We suggest you actually hand write this contact list and make photo copies to keep handy and distribute to the other people on your list.  A written contact list would be crucial in the event both the internet and cell phone service are down.  In addition to having emergency contact information on hand, it is important that you and your family create an emergency location to meet up in case all other communication are cut off.

One of the best ways to prepare you and your family in case of any emergency is, a GO BAG!  A decade ago, the suggestion of a GO BAG may have seemed extreme but, these days being prepared could save you from some serious aggravation or possibly save a life.  Whether you live in a high-rise in the city or a home in the suburbs, you can customize a GO BAG for each person in your household. A suggested list of GO BAG items are posted at this link:   Westchestergov.com and detailed below.  Don't forget to include a copy of emergency contact information in each GO BAG!

THENERDSWIFE.COM

THENERDSWIFE.COM

You can also create an emergency GO BAG specifically for kids!  The options of what to include in your GO BAG are endless.  THE WANNA suggests you include an "In Case of Emergency" or ICE card in your child's GO BAG.  Amazon sells a version for around $10 bucks here.  Ultimately, customizing a bag to fit your specific needs are obviously the best way to go.  But, If you are way too busy to customize a GO BAG, you can buy a pre-packaged "survival" bag or "family emergency"  kit.  This website, Stealthangelsurvival.com has a slew of options to choose from.

Make a bag. Buy a bag... Whatever you choose, just do it!  It's better to be SAFE than SORRY!

Have a fun, memorable and SAFE summer season 2018!

xo, THE WANNA

HOW TO HOST THE PERFECT LAST MINUTE BARBECUE? HURRY UP AND READ THIS...

Gina Giordan

START PLANNING THE PERFECT BBQ RIGHT NOW…

START PLANNING THE PERFECT BBQ RIGHT NOW…

Memorial Day weekend 2022 is only a few months away!  It’s the unofficial start to the summer season.

This holiday weekend is the perfect time to host a backyard, deck or porch-side BBQ celebration in honor of our fellow veterans and active military members.

If you are anything like us here at W2W, we realize doing things last minute and on a budget is key.  No worries, we’ve got you covered!

W2W put together some solid resources to help you plan, including a handy checklist, so you can host the perfect BBQ soiree.  You just need to provide the working grill and we can help you plan the rest!

Let’s do this!

GUEST LIST:  Make a quick guest list.  Nothing fancy.  Text or create an official invite or send an electronic invitation with, Evite.  Just have a solid number of people who will attend and plan to eat!  Once you have a solid number of attendees, make sure to ask if anyone has any specific food allergies or special dietary needs, such as gluten free or vegan.  Then be sure to plan accordingly.  We agree shrimp on the barb sounds great but some folks are allergic to shellfish so providing a few options from fish, meat and non-meat food dishes. are a safe way to go.

FOOD MENU:  Based on how many guests attending and their dietary needs, start planning your menu and make a list of all the food/drink ingredients and non-food supplies you’ll need for the barbecue.   This is also a good time to think of a theme for your BBQ.  See “DECOR” for more on this topic.

DRINK MENU:  Create a signature drink.  This can be with or without alcohol.  A signature drink is a great way to create a memorable theme or just spice up the celebration.  Plus, buying and creating anything in bulk can save time and money.  Our favorite cocktail that you can put your own spin on is an, Aperol Spritz.  If your guests like prosecco and orange, this is a big hit!  American flag garnish is optional.

CREATE A SIGNATURE DRINK

CREATE A SIGNATURE DRINK

FOOD & SUPPLIES SHOPPING LIST:  Create a master food and supplies list.  This CHECK LIST from our friends over at STOCKYARDS STEAKS is a super handy checklist that you can print out and get the ball rollin’.  An all American basic BBQ menu typically includes hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken.  Side dishes include corn, grilled veggies and potato salad.  For dessert, fresh fruit salad, cupcakes, cookies or a sundae bar is a festive way to go.  You can put your own a spin on any BBQ by adding on fresh fish such as Lobster or shrimp, speciality frozen drinks or gourmet side dishes.   If possible, we suggest you purchase any nonperishable foods and supplies at least a few days in advance.  This is will help breakup the shopping load but, if you don’t have the time, one big shopping trip will get the job done!

BBQ CHECK LIST

BBQ CHECK LIST

OUTDOOR GEAR:  Whether your event is outdoors or inside, you need to think of seating.  It’s customary to provide comfortable and sun free seat options for guests to eat.  You may need to rent or buy extra folding tables or chairs.  Paper or we prefer reusable Melamine (heavy duty plastic) products are a simple way to provide all the necessary cups, plates, utensils, serving pieces for your guests.  PartyCity, Target, Walmart and Amazon are all good last minute options to buy any gear and table supplies.  Don’t forget to invest in a few outdoor receptacles for garbage or at least a box of heavy duty 20 gallon garbage bags

DECOR:  Whether you throw a BBQ with several weeks to plan or 24 hours before, “DECOR” doesn’t have to be a scary word.  Not every celebration has to have a theme but, it' sure makes the event festive and can help streamline every choice you make from the food to the cups, plates and utensils.  If you have the time, check out Martha Stewart and Town and Country’s take on the perfect Mem Day bash for some decor inspo. If you are short on time, no worries, mood lighting can create a festive impact on your guests with minimal effort.  Buy a few sets of flameless candles for the tables and hang some string lights over the eating areas to create instant ambiance!  For any summer celebration, you can’t go wrong with an American flag theme.  Even a few flags proudly on display will help create a more festive vibe.

FOOD AND DRINK STATIONS:  Serving up the food quick, hot and simple is key.  We suggest creating a food and drink self serve or buffet area for guests to serve themselves.  This is the best way to go.  We suggest creating food stations inside but, If your buffet stations are outside you will want to serve the food in covered containers or cover all food trays with the appropriate sized food screens to keep out the bugs.  Food screens are a great investment and everyone from Amazon to Target sells a version.  Heated food trays or burners are also a great option and can keep food warm without burning anything for hours at a time.  Kabobs are great way to serve guests fast and easy.  Helps create a great theme for your event as well.  The kabob sticks come in metal or bamboo are easy to buy in bulk and help streamline the grilling process.

THE DAY OF YOUR BBQ:

  • Prep all your dishes and items to be grilled.  Marinate meats and veggies for grilling.  Be sure to display all your condiments for guests. Cut and prep fresh fruits and veggies and keep them in the fridge until guests arrive.

  • Finish decorating. Make the final adjustments to your décor and seating arrangements. Organize cups, plates, utensils, salads, side dishes, condiments, etc., on a buffet-style table. Make sure any food items are covered to protect them from heat and bugs!

  • Set up the drinks station. Fill your cooler with ice and stock it with plenty of drinks so they’re nice and cold by the time your guests arrive. Remember to frequently replenish the ice supply throughout the day.

  • Fire up the grill. Set up your grill and start cookin’! Keep an eye on the meats and ensure they’re being grilled at the proper grilling temperatures.

  • Enjoy! Spend the day having fun with your family and friends!

POST BBQ:

  • Put away the leftovers. Wrap up any leftover perishable food right away and store them in the fridge. (That includes meats, salad, cheeses and spreads.) If there’s enough to go around, give some leftovers to your guests to take home.

  • Clean up. Throw away the trash and clean and disinfect tables and chairs. Don’t forget to thoroughly clean your grill too.

  • Stock up for your next BBQ bash. Hang on to any unused utensils and save them for your next fabulous backyard barbecue.

Any tips on how you made a last minute BBQ a success?

We would love to hear from you!

HOW DOES THE CORONAVIRUS SPREAD and WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

UPDATED FACTS on the CORONAVIRUS. THE SYMPTOMS and how the virus SPREADS…

Passengers wearing face masks travel on a subway train in Shanghai on March 5, 2020.(AFP photo)

Passengers wearing face masks travel on a subway train in Shanghai on March 5, 2020.(AFP photo)

1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold.

2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.

3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.

4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.

5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.

6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. Normal laundry detergent will kill the virus.

7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.

8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.

9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.

10. Can't emphasize enough - Drink plenty of water!

THE SYMPTOMS

1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days

2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.

3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.

4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.

As Coronavirus Spreads, Here’s What You Can Do

As coronavirus, or COVID-19, spreads globally, public health experts suggest these 5 vital steps to take now for prevention:

Wash your hands

Experts agree that washing your hands frequently is one of the most important acts in preventing virus spread. During an outbreak, proper hand-washing is your best defense against a virus. So, follow the evidence-based advice to wash for 20 seconds or more using soap and water. In addition, you may want to forego hugging and hand-shakes, and embrace "low-touch" salutations such as the elbow bump.

Self-quarantine if you feel sick

Stay home if you aren’t feeling well, and encourage your friends and coworkers to do the same. Keep your distance from other people. As for what constitutes far enough, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends maintaining at least “three feet of distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.”

Should you start to feel ill, stay out of public areas to avoid spreading the sickness. But if you develop more than mild symptoms, particularly if you have any trouble breathing, then seek immediate care.

Refrain from touching your face

Don't touch your face, eyes, nose, and mouth since you can transmit a virus in a single touch. While coming into contact with a contaminated surface won’t immediately confirm the spread, infection occurs when you touch your eyes, your mouth, or the inside of the nose. Another solution is to wipe down your surroundings with disinfectant wipes before coming into contact with them.

Carry hand sanitizer

Although washing with soap and water is king, coating hands with hand sanitizer is a handy on-the-go method. The CDC recommends an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol (for example, Purell has 70%).

Stock up on essentials

Beyond hand soap, make sure you have at least a little food in your house in case you decide to stay at home for a few days. When you’re doing bulk buying, remember that surgical masks do not need to be top of the list. The standard paper surgical masks on the news have virtually no protective value for healthy people. Masks are most important for health care workers taking care of sick people.

CORONAVIRUS 101 - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW...

Gina Giordan

What is coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in people and many different species of animals. COVID-19 Novel (meaning “new”) coronavirus is a virus strain that has only spread in people since December 2019. There are thousands of confirmed cases in China and additional cases being identified in a growing number of countries internationally, including the United States.

How does novel coronavirus spread?

The virus that causes COVID-19 probably emerged from an animal source, but now it seems to be spreading from person to person. Since this virus is very new, health authorities continue to carefully watch how this virus spreads. Other coronaviruses spread from an infected person to others through:

  • The air by coughing and sneezing

  • Close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands

  • Touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes

How can I prevent getting novel coronavirus?

Currently there are no vaccines available to prevent novel coronavirus infections.

Steps you can take to prevent spread of flu and the common cold will also help prevent coronavirus:
Please be aware that we have hand sanitizers in all training rooms as well as soap in all 5 bathrooms.

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick

  • Stay home while you are sick and avoid contact with others

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

  • Push doors open with elbows when possible.

  • Use tissues to open bathroom doors when leaving.

  • Instructors will avoid handshakes and high fives to students and parents as a safety measure as well.

How severe is novel coronavirus?

People infected have had illness that has ranged from mild (like a common cold) to severe pneumonia that requires medical care in a hospital. So far, deaths have been reported mainly in older adults who had other health conditions.

What are the symptoms?

People who have been diagnosed with novel coronavirus have symptoms that may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms may include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

How is novel coronavirus treated?

There is no specific treatment for coronavirus. Most people with mild coronavirus illness will recover on their own by drinking plenty of fluids, resting, and taking pain and fever medications. However, some people develop pneumonia and need medical care or treatment in a hospital.

The best ways to prevent the spread of any virus is to make sure children stay home if they are exhibiting any symptoms.

Here are symptoms to look for in the Corona Virus:

*Occur 2-14 days after exposure

- Fever

- Cough

- Shortness of Breathe

FANS OF THE LATE BELOVED, FASHION DESIGNER KATE SPADE, RUSH TO BUY OUT HER CURRENT ACCESSORIES COLLECTION, "FRANCES VALENTINE" ON NORDSTROM.COM - SOLD OUT IN MINUTES...

Uber successful fashion designer, Kate Spade, reportedly committed suicide this morning at age, 55.  Spade's Housekeeper apparently found Spade hanging by a scarf tied to the doorknob of her bedroom, with a note by her side.  Katherine Noel Frances Valentine Bresnahan is survived by her husband and business partner, Andy Spade and 13 year old daughter, Bea Spade.

As soon as the horrible news made headlines this morning, fans of Spade immediately hit the internet and snatched up her latest fashion collection, "Frances Valentine."  FrancesValentine.com was so busy the site was shut down.  Nordstrom.com carries the online collection and every piece sold out in minutes.

In 2016, Spade legally changed her name to "Frances Valentine" to help support her latest business venture.  It is surreal to watch this WSJ interview where Spade explains why she chose to change her name and shared, "I didn't want to confuse the customer with my name."  Spade went onto reveal how getting back into the fashion business after a hiatus to raise her daughter, was not easy, "I forget how hard it was."

Spade's alleged suicide is a tragic reminder that despite success, fame and fortune anyone can suffer from depression and mental health issues.  WE all need to work towards making it easier for anyone suffering to get help and not feel alone.  The time is now to get rid of the negative stigma on mental health issues and make it easier for anyone to access the necessary care and resources to live a productive life.

NAMI is a fantastic resource for loved ones in need or anyone suffering from anxiety, depression and mental illness.

USA Today created a memorable look back at the fashion icon, mother and wife, Kate Spade.  RIP.

MALE DIRECTOR TELLS JESSICA CHASTAIN NOT TO TALK ABOUT "WOMEN STUFF" ON SET

Mike Rosenthal/American Way

Mike Rosenthal/American Way

Jessica Chastain, a constant advocate for gender equality in Hollywood, recently opened up about a past brush with sexism she faced while speaking to a male director.  Chastain told American Way in a new interview, “I had one male director say to me that I talk too much about all of this ‘women stuff.’  This is a person I love, and maybe he was concerned I would hurt my career.”  She continued, “I’m not attacking anyone.  I’m trying to create more inclusiveness, compassion and empathy, which in turn makes better movies, better art.”

Chastain founded the production company Freckle Films in order to combat Hollywood gender inequality.  When asked about the company, Chastain expressed her frustrations with gender issues today: “I just don’t know why it’s not changing…I’m doing my part to make the change, so why isn’t everyone else?”

Chastain has been outspoken about gender equality in the workplace, and addressed “gender imbalance” in Hollywood before.  Chastain wrote a letter for The Hollywood Reporter, where she addressed the issue of sexism on a film shoot: “When you have both genders represented, then you have a healthier point of view.  The energy is great, you all are working together as a community, and everyone is participating in the exchange of ideas.  You don't feel a hierarchy; you don't have anyone feeling like they are being left out or bullied or humiliated.  Sometimes being the only girl on a set, you can feel like a sexual object.”

Chastain has also spoken about the gender pay gap in Hollywood.  In a 2016 interview with Variety, Chastain said, “We’re supposed to be a mirror that’s held up to society and tells the story of what’s happening around us.  And sometimes the American film industry only tells the stories of a few and I don’t want my story to be erased.  I want to see women out there and I want them to be equally compensated for the work that they do.”

JENNIFER GARNER WANTS TRUMP TO HELP AMERICA’S IMPOVERISHED CHILDREN

Larry French/Getty Images

Jennifer Garner, a liberal-minded actress who supported Hillary Clinton in the last election, has voiced her desire to work with Donald Trump to help impoverished American children.  Garner has been a longtime early education advocate for poor children in places like the West Virginia community where she was raised.  Garner has been a board member of the Save the Children nonprofit organization for almost a decade, which has brought her to Washington, D.C. on many occasions to advocate for underprivileged rural areas.

This past weekend, Garner went to the White House to continue her efforts.  Garner has decided to put politics aside in favor of asking Trump for help, she told The Washington Post, “If he’s willing to help the poor kids who got him elected, then let’s do it.  They certainly think he’s going to.”  Garner said, “I’m looking forward to helping him make good on what they saw as promises, a mandate from him, that he was going to make their lives better.”

Garner said many politicians she has met claim they will help with childhood funding, but don’t follow through: “Everyone’s nodding and couldn’t agree more, and shaking your hand and want their picture.  But when the vote is cast, nobody’s out there screaming and yelling for poor kids.”  Garner continued, “Send me a ticket to Mar-a-Lago.  I’m ready to go down and have a steak and a good chat.  I really think it’s great, if [Trump]’s willing to help the poor kids who got him elected.”

Garner’s work with Save the Children includes urging Congress and state governments to “fund reading and literacy programs that include all-day kindergarten.”  Garner said, “You just wouldn’t believe the number of kids who have never heard a nursery rhyme.”

The Washington Post reported Garner’s activities in D.C. over the weekend: “The 44-year-old actress spent the weekend lobbying the town’s pillars of power to support early education for poor rural children.  She spent Friday on Capitol Hill meeting dozens of top staff members.  On Saturday, she delivered the keynote address before the annual National Governors Association winter meeting here.”  Garner also had a planned sit-down with Ivanka Trump, but it was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.  The actress looks forward to making the meeting happen sometime in the future.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom made the mutual decision to end their 10-month relationship with an amicable split.  On Tuesday, the duo released a joint statement: “Before rumors or falsifications get out of hand we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time.”

An E! News source revealed, “Katy pulled the plug.  It was a few events that happened over the past few months.  They both still love each other very much, though, and getting back together could happen once they have some space."

Perry and Bloom were photographed smiling together at the Vanity Fair Oscars after party on Sunday night.  An onlooker told People, “Katy didn’t spend much time with Orlando.  They got together for a photo, but that was about it.”  According to the source, Perry had grown close with Bloom’s son, Flynn.  The insider said, “They are still in contact and want to keep everything between them pretty private.  Katy has built a really strong connection with Flynn.  It's sad but it will work out how it's supposed to.”

Recently, Perry has been busy promoting her fourth studio album, while Bloom has been around the world for UNICEF outreach.

OSCAR WINNER CASEY AFFLECK SPEAKS OUT ABOUT 2010 SEXUAL HARASSMENT ACCUSATIONS

On Tuesday, Casey Affleck spoke about his past sexual harassment allegations after he faced backlash for winning Best Actor at the 89th Academy Awards.  Affleck sat down for an interview with the Boston Globe, where he was asked about the widespread criticism of his Oscars win.  Affleck said, “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.  There’s really nothing I can do about it.  Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”

In 2010, Affleck was sued for sexual harassment by producer Amanda White and cinematographer Magdalena Gorka, who both worked on “I’m Still Here” with him.  The women alleged that Affleck and other male crew members harangued them with unwanted sexual comments, advances and intimidation throughout filming.  Both lawsuits were settled out of court, and Affleck has continued to deny the claims.

After Affleck took home the Best Actor Academy Award on Sunday, many people on Twitter reacted with frustration.  Actor B.J. Novak tweeted:

CELEBS REACT TO “AWKWARD” BEST PICTURE MISTAKE AT 2017 OSCARS

Reuters

On Sunday night, the 89th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.  The night was full of memorable moments, from host Jimmy Kimmel’s teasing of Matt Damon, Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali’s important Oscar wins, to several political statements throughout the night.

But perhaps the most unforgettable moment came right at the tail end of the ceremony when “La La Land” was mistakenly named Best Picture instead of the real winner, “Moonlight.”  Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway took the stage to open the Best Picture envelope and read off the film’s name, during which Beatty seemed to pause for comic effect before announcing, “La La Land.”  The “La La Land” crew took the stage to accept the award and even started giving speeches before the mistake was realized.  “La La Land” producer Jordan Horowitz went up to the mic and said, “You guys, I’m sorry, no.  There’s a mistake.  ‘Moonlight,’ you guys won Best Picture.”  After a few moments, the “Moonlight” cast and crew ascended the stage where they exchanged hugs and words with the “La La Land” team.  Beatty chimed in later: “I want to tell you what happened.  I opened the envelope and it said, ‘Emma Stone, La La Land.’  That’s why I took such a long look at Faye, and at you.  I wasn’t trying to be funny.”
