The Fall season is here!  The season officially changes September, 22.  By mid October, the kids are back and settled into their new school routine.  Those summer work hours are a distant memory and most folks are back in the office working five days a week.

You may recall, the moment you transitioned from Summer to Fall, as you stepped outside and the brisk chilly air hit you in the face.  Instantly reminding you that it's time to layer up and winter is just around the corner!

Despite the chill in the air, the transition from summer to the fall season is truly a magical time of the year.  One of our favorites!  The leaves are changing colors and the local farms open their doors to celebrate the harvest!

If you live in the NYC there are several local farms that are open seven days a week and offer apple, pumpkin picking, food, live music and several seasonal activities for all ages!

Memorial Day weekend 2019 is here!  It’s the unofficial start to the summer season.

This holiday weekend is the perfect time to host a backyard, deck or porch-side BBQ celebration in honor of our fellow veterans and active military members.

If you are anything like us here at THE WANNA, we realize doing things last minute and on a budget is key.  No worries, we’ve got you covered!

THE WANNA put together some solid resources to help you plan, including a handy checklist, so you can host the perfect BBQ soiree.  You just need to provide the working grill and we can help you plan the rest!

Let’s do this!

GUEST LIST:  Make a quick guest list.  Nothing fancy.  Text or create an official invite or send an electronic invitation with, Evite.  Just have a solid number of people who will attend and plan to eat!  Once you have a solid number of attendees, make sure to ask if anyone has any specific food allergies or special dietary needs, such as gluten free or vegan.  Then be sure to plan accordingly.  We agree shrimp on the barb sounds great but some folks are allergic to shellfish so providing a few options from fish, meat and non-meat food dishes. are a safe way to go.

FOOD MENU:  Based on how many guests attending and their dietary needs, start planning your menu and make a list of all the food/drink ingredients and non-food supplies you’ll need for the barbecue.   This is also a good time to think of a theme for your BBQ.  See “DECOR” for more on this topic.

DRINK MENU:  Create a signature drink.  This can be with or without alcohol.  A signature drink is a great way to create a memorable theme or just spice up the celebration.  Plus, buying and creating anything in bulk can save time and money.  Our favorite cocktail that you can put your own spin on is an, Aperol Spritz.  If your guests like prosecco and orange, this is a big hit!  American flag garnish is optional.

FOOD & SUPPLIES SHOPPING LIST:  Create a master food and supplies list.  This CHECK LIST from our friends over at STOCKYARDS STEAKS is a super handy checklist that you can print out and get the ball rollin’.  An all American basic BBQ menu typically includes hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken.  Side dishes include corn, grilled veggies and potato salad.  For dessert, fresh fruit salad, cupcakes, cookies or a sundae bar is a festive way to go.  You can put your own a spin on any BBQ by adding on fresh fish such as Lobster or shrimp, speciality frozen drinks or gourmet side dishes.   If possible, we suggest you purchase any nonperishable foods and supplies at least a few days in advance.  This is will help breakup the shopping load but, if you don’t have the time, one big shopping trip will get the job done!

OUTDOOR GEAR:  Whether your event is outdoors or inside, you need to think of seating.  It’s customary to provide comfortable and sun free seat options for guests to eat.  You may need to rent or buy extra folding tables or chairs.  Paper or we prefer reusable Melamine (heavy duty plastic) products are a simple way to provide all the necessary cups, plates, utensils, serving pieces for your guests.  PartyCity, Target, Walmart and Amazon are all good last minute options to buy any gear and table supplies.  Don’t forget to invest in a few outdoor receptacles for garbage or at least a box of heavy duty 20 gallon garbage bags

DECOR:  Whether you throw a BBQ with several weeks to plan or 24 hours before, “DECOR” doesn’t have to be a scary word.  Not every celebration has to have a theme but, it' sure makes the event festive and can help streamline every choice you make from the food to the cups, plates and utensils.  If you have the time, check out Martha Stewart and Town and Country’s take on the perfect Mem Day bash for some decor inspo. If you are short on time, no worries, mood lighting can create a festive impact on your guests with minimal effort.  Buy a few sets of flameless candles for the tables and hang some string lights over the eating areas to create instant ambiance!  For any summer celebration, you can’t go wrong with an American flag theme.  Even a few flags proudly on display will help create a more festive vibe.

FOOD AND DRINK STATIONS:  Serving up the food quick, hot and simple is key.  We suggest creating a food and drink self serve or buffet area for guests to serve themselves.  This is the best way to go.  We suggest creating food stations inside but, If your buffet stations are outside you will want to serve the food in covered containers or cover all food trays with the appropriate sized food screens to keep out the bugs.  Food screens are a great investment and everyone from Amazon to Target sells a version.  Heated food trays or burners are also a great option and can keep food warm without burning anything for hours at a time.  Kabobs are great way to serve guests fast and easy.  Helps create a great theme for your event as well.  The kabob sticks come in metal or bamboo are easy to buy in bulk and help streamline the grilling process.

  • Prep all your dishes and items to be grilled.  Marinate meats and veggies for grilling.  Be sure to display all your condiments for guests. Cut and prep fresh fruits and veggies and keep them in the fridge until guests arrive.

  • Finish decorating. Make the final adjustments to your décor and seating arrangements. Organize cups, plates, utensils, salads, side dishes, condiments, etc., on a buffet-style table. Make sure any food items are covered to protect them from heat and bugs!

  • Set up the drinks station. Fill your cooler with ice and stock it with plenty of drinks so they’re nice and cold by the time your guests arrive. Remember to frequently replenish the ice supply throughout the day.

  • Fire up the grill. Set up your grill and start cookin’! Keep an eye on the meats and ensure they’re being grilled at the proper grilling temperatures.

  • Enjoy! Spend the day having fun with your family and friends!

  • Put away the leftovers. Wrap up any leftover perishable food right away and store them in the fridge. (That includes meats, salad, cheeses and spreads.) If there’s enough to go around, give some leftovers to your guests to take home.

  • Clean up. Throw away the trash and clean and disinfect tables and chairs. Don’t forget to thoroughly clean your grill too.

  • Stock up for your next BBQ bash. Hang on to any unused utensils and save them for your next fabulous backyard barbecue.

Any tips on how you made a last minute BBQ a success? We would love to hear from you! Please do comment below and let us know!

Happy Summer!

Father’s day is Sunday, June 16, 2019!

Time to take note and say thanks to Daddy dearest.  Give your Dad a break from picking up the tab and show him how much you appreciate him this season with one of these “INDIE” gifts!

“INDIE” is about everything that isn’t mainstream, going deep and discovering those hidden gems.

The WANNA has done all the legwork and crafted a list of online, cutting edge, innovative “INDIE” gifts, that your Dad is gonna dig!

1.  PHONE SOAP:  News flash… Your Dad is going to bed with the filthiest thing every night. NO!  Not your mom!  His phone.  Smart phones are filthy.  Think about it, we carry them everywhere.  From when we wake up, the first thing we reach for is the phone, trips to the bathroom have never been more entertaining and when we settle into bed with all the lights out, it’s the phone light that lulls us to sleep.  Admit it. You’re addicted to your phone.  Safe to say Dad is a victim too.  That’s why our first “INDIE” gift pick PHONE SOAP is a must have for Dad.  Not only will you look like a genius child, (Dad is always reminding us to wash our hands) but, PHONE SOAP actually helps by impairing bacteria’s DNA, and killing it with UV-light. No water or soap required. How sci-fi is that? Now, don’t take it from us, LORI GREINER one of the stars of the hit show, Shark Tank (ON ABC) believes in PHONE SOAP and chose to invest $300,000 into creating the product.

2. DAKOTA WATCHES:  Whether your dad is a watch enthusiast or thinks Rolex is the latest green glass cleaner, this next “INDIE” gift pick, DAKOTA WATCHES will keep him sharp and on time.  DAKOTA WATCHES don’t care about being big or diamond-encrusted. Their elegance comes from simplicity, from the beauty of wearing a watch outdoors and smelling the pines as you trek the evergreens. DAKOTA WATCHES are adventurous and timeless (see what we did there?)

RETAIL PRICE:  $75 – $97

3. GREENPAXX SNACK PACKS AND STRAWS:  Being a Father is hard work.  We get it.  Mom usually is the one who takes care of organizing all the stuff (except for those OCD dads). Our third “INDIE” gift pick, GREENPAXX SNACK PACKS AND STRAWS, will make Dad look like a hero, and may even outshine Mom in the organization side.  GREENPAXX SNACK PACKS AND STRAWS are sure to become a kids’ favorite. They can serve as popsicle makers in the summer, and as snack packs all year long.  And it’s an easy rinse and overnight dry, so they’re always clean and ready to go.  Pretty much like dad!

4. NAME 5:  So what’s the gift for the gamer Dad?  No, he’s probably not hogging your Xbox or PS4, but he is the guy who bought you your first Monopoly set.  Game night means a lot for him!  Our next “INDIE” Father’s Day pick is a new game bound to save game night forever. NAME 5 is the easy game of questions you know the answers to!  Dad can surely name one Tom Hanks movie, but can he name five before the time runs out? If he can, he’ll be your family’s biggest nerd, and greatest champion.

5. LEAFCUTTER DESIGNS COCKTAIL DICE:  After game night, comes some alone time…  And that’s when everyone likes to experiment and get creative.  Spice things up a bit. With a little refreshment.  This next “INDIE” gift pick, the LEAFCUTTER DESIGN COCKTAIL DICE will let Dad experiment with your best cocktail ingredients to create a new classic.  The cocktail dice are handcrafted, and comes with simple instructions to make mixology even more fun.  Let dad be the mix master of his own house.

6. VINNIBAG:  Sometimes you just wanna take date night on the go.  Let Dad get outta the house, away from the kids, and share a night with just him, mom, and their favorite wine.  How to take the wine to their date night under the stars?  Look, all parents do that.  It’s the reason you’re here.  With our next “INDIE” gift pick, of course. VINNIBAG, the wine bag that protects and insulates liquids and is an easy to pack, versatile travelling companion. VINNIBAG’s innovative, inflatable design was featured at the Museum of Modern Art in sunny San Francisco, and we can assure you it changes the meaning of drinking out of a bag.

7. GREAT MINDS: Dad is king of the castle.  Keeping the castle running is hard work, though.  Sometimes you just need to put your mind to something else.  Let Dad focus on GREAT MINDS puzzles.  Each one of the puzzles reflects the “great mind” who inspired it.  From Faraday and Franklin to Kepler and Edison, our seventh “INDIE” gift will boost Dad’s mind (and possibly frustrate him a bit before he feels the satisfaction of solving them)! Let dad unleash his inner Ben Franklin without risking electrocution and dressing like a dork.

8. OLLIE:   Remember how Dad broke his back to get you the latest GI Joe?  After all, he had to give up on his toys to be responsible for you.  He used to be a risk taker!  He probably gave up on his skateboarding career!  Give back to Dad by giving him a toy for grown ups.  Ugh!  No!  Not that.  A toy that can be used with his super-clean smartphone!  Developed by INDIE games studio, Sphero, OLLIE is like a real life Tony Hawk video game without the snarky skater attitude.  Our last “INDIE” pick has been highlighted in websites including MashableThe Fast Company, and even The Huffington Post. Its innovative mechanism lets you use your phone as a controller for your live action road warrior.  And yes, it really is as fun as it sounds.

Baby it's COLD outside!

Post holiday season and we are a few days into the new year, 2018.

This year the Spring Equinox is on March 20th.  We are barely mid-way through winter.  Some of us still have to endure another 77 days of record breaking cold temps and snow!  Savvy shoppers know right NOW is the perfect time of year to take advantage of some mid-winter season sales on just about everything!  At the moment, we here at THE WANNA can't get enough of that warm and cozy feeling all day long.  Thats why we put together a list of mid-winter must haves that will have you and your fur kids, covered in cozy sherpa from the second you wake-up till the moment you slip into bed.  Sherpa, fleece, shearling, it's all the same to us!  Soft, warm and cozy is the main goal.  Here are some warm and cozy must haves that you wouldn't necessarily expect to be lined in sherpa and they are all absolutely worth investing in right now!  Stay warm and happy hunting!

"Soft and Cozy" Plush Sheet Set at

"Soft and Cozy" Plush Sheet Set at

SHERPA SHEET SET -  Get your priorities straight people.  If you can only afford one item on this list, start with a pair of these "SOFT and COZY" brand of life altering bed sheets.  The right sheets can literally change your life.  We all need to sleep and when it's freezing outside there is nothing better than slipping into a cloud of sherpa!  We personally tested out a ton of brands.  The consensus is that they all attract static cling.  So, keep a can of "Static Guard" around this time of year.  The higher priced sets maybe better tailored and slightly thicker but,  any price point on plush sheets and you can't go wrong  HSN sells a brand called "SOFT AND COZY" and the name truly speaks for itself. Splurge away.  You won't regret it!

VCNY Velvet and Sherpa Comforter Set

VCNY Velvet and Sherpa Comforter Set

SHERPA COMFORTER SET - VCNY is known for their well made yet moderately priced bedding sets.  We LOVE the velvet and sherpa / fleece lined reversible comforter set in a slew of bejeweled colors to go with any decor.  Velvet on one side and soft cozy sherpa on the other!  Sherpa-riffic!

SHERPA COAT -  J.Crew is the master of cashmere but, this season they also re-defined sherpa.  The infamous "Teddy Coat" gets a sophisticated makeover from J.Crew this season.  We LOVE the "Plush Fleece" in the "Deep Peri" hue but, the version in black is forever classic.  Talk about huggable for hours and hours.

SHERPA HAT  - CROWN CAP based in Canada is one of our favorite brands for cold weather accessories.  Their array of impeccably made assorted fur hats are beautiful yet, also practical.  No joke (sorry PETA) but, when it's -10 degrees outside, fur gets the job done.   This pick from CC is vintage leather and lined in sherpa, super stylish and moderately priced so if you leave it in a cab or lose it at the bar, it's not the end of the world...Well maybe.

VALENTINE'S DAY in the 21st Century...

Valentine's Day.

Each year on February 14th, many people all over the world, exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “Valentine.”

The day of romance we call Valentine's Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century but, has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia.

For some people, V-Day is just another "commercial" holiday that ultimately feels more like an obligation, jacks up the cost of roses, chocolate and reminds single people they may end up alone forever?

Well ... not so fast my cynical friends.

In today's tech consumed world, the once simple act of experiencing an in-depth human connection is getting harder and harder to find.

Can you remember what a real human connection is?  Real eye to eye contact.  Heart to heart communication.  Soul to soul exchange.

This real connection takes time.  Dare I say, it takes WORK!   What?  More work?

In today's day and age, if you are fortunate enough to find another person you actually want to see face to face.  No, selfie to selfie does not count!  Your next step is to actually peel yourself away from all modern technology and make a real effort to connect with a person...That means (gasp) you need to put down the phone...wait no, turn off the phone!  Ok.  Baby steps.  How about just turn over the phone?

There is NO denying it...TECH TURNOFF is a serious challenge.

In 2016, Valentines Day has taken on a very different meaning.  The once holiday of professing your love with a bouquet of flowers and chocolates has been trumped just simple human connection.

Moving forward, when it comes to love, the real question you should ask yourself isn't just,  "Do I really like this person?"

The real test for your inner love meter is,  "Can I fathom TECH TURNOFF with this person?"  Do I feel the urge to turn off the phone?  Can I realistically take my mind off the social media rat race and focus on this one person?

Now, when it comes to relationships, the tech turn-off should be a no brainer.  If you and your significant other are finding it hard to turn off (or at least turn away) from the phone to share a meal together and actually connect...If you are finding the "tech turn- off" a serious challenge, then maybe you need to work at the relationship or just simply turn away?

Valentines Day is the perfect opportunity to show your loved ones you care enough to TURN OFF the tech and TURN ON the romance.

Ya know you wanna!

Uber successful fashion designer, Kate Spade, reportedly committed suicide this morning at age, 55.  Spade's Housekeeper apparently found Spade hanging by a scarf tied to the doorknob of her bedroom, with a note by her side.  Katherine Noel Frances Valentine Bresnahan is survived by her husband and business partner, Andy Spade and 13 year old daughter, Bea Spade.

As soon as the horrible news made headlines this morning, fans of Spade immediately hit the internet and snatched up her latest fashion collection, "Frances Valentine." was so busy the site was shut down. carries the online collection and every piece sold out in minutes.

In 2016, Spade legally changed her name to "Frances Valentine" to help support her latest business venture.  It is surreal to watch this WSJ interview where Spade explains why she chose to change her name and shared, "I didn't want to confuse the customer with my name."  Spade went onto reveal how getting back into the fashion business after a hiatus to raise her daughter, was not easy, "I forget how hard it was."

Spade's alleged suicide is a tragic reminder that despite success, fame and fortune anyone can suffer from depression and mental health issues.  WE all need to work towards making it easier for anyone suffering to get help and not feel alone.  The time is now to get rid of the negative stigma on mental health issues and make it easier for anyone to access the necessary care and resources to live a productive life.

NAMI is a fantastic resource for loved ones in need or anyone suffering from anxiety, depression and mental illness.

USA Today created a memorable look back at the fashion icon, mother and wife, Kate Spade.  RIP.

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” ― Benjamin Franklin

“I will prepare and some day my chance will come.” ― Abraham Lincoln

"Expect the best, plan for the worst!"  That's my motto to live by.  In today's world, with exploding deadly lava,  wildfires, catastrophic hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks (the list goes on)  it's a good idea to prepare you and your loved ones for any emergency situation.

Friday, June 1st, is the official mark of the 2018 Hurricane season.  What if during an emergency you are separated from a loved one?  Do you have a plan?  Does your child know what to do if they are separated from you during a natural disaster?  It's no surprise during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, there were more than 5000 cases of missing children after the storm.  Hurricane Katrina survivor, Marceline, shared her harrowing story with "Save the Children."  She was separated from her 2-year-old daughter for a week.  Would your child have the necessary skills to find their way back to you?

These days, relying on our cell phones for everything means most of us would have trouble remembering actual contact numbers or addresses without using their cell phone.  Do you know all your loved ones direct contact numbers off the top of your head?  What about the actual address of an emergency evacuation route or bus stop?  Sometimes a nasty Nor'easter doesn't come with a timely warning and can leave you without power and water for days. No power means your local stores and gas stations are closed.  Are you prepared if a violent storm hit tonight leaving you without power for weeks?  Preparing yourself and your loved ones ahead of time, for any emergency is key.

For starters, make sure you actually have a list of cell phone numbers and addresses of the important people in your life.  That means in addition to loved ones you have contact numbers for care takers, doctors, emergency care, hospitals etc.  We suggest you actually hand write this contact list and make photo copies to keep handy and distribute to the other people on your list.  A written contact list would be crucial in the event both the internet and cell phone service are down.  In addition to having emergency contact information on hand, it is important that you and your family create an emergency location to meet up in case all other communication are cut off.

One of the best ways to prepare you and your family in case of any emergency is, a GO BAG!  A decade ago, the suggestion of a GO BAG may have seemed extreme but, these days being prepared could save you from some serious aggravation or possibly save a life.  Whether you live in a high-rise in the city or a home in the suburbs, you can customize a GO BAG for each person in your household. A suggested list of GO BAG items are posted at this link: and detailed below.  Don't forget to include a copy of emergency contact information in each GO BAG!

You can also create an emergency GO BAG specifically for kids!  The options of what to include in your GO BAG are endless.  THE WANNA suggests you include an "In Case of Emergency" or ICE card in your child's GO BAG.  Amazon sells a version for around $10 bucks here.  Ultimately, customizing a bag to fit your specific needs are obviously the best way to go.  But, If you are way too busy to customize a GO BAG, you can buy a pre-packaged "survival" bag or "family emergency"  kit.  This website, has a slew of options to choose from.

Make a bag. Buy a bag... Whatever you choose, just do it!  It's better to be SAFE than SORRY!

Have a fun, memorable and SAFE summer season 2018!

In the event of an emergency that requires you to evacuate, everyone in your household should have a Go Bag packed and ready to go. Your Go Bag should be a sturdy and easy to carry backpack or duffle bag containing things you would want to have with you if you have to leave in a hurry. Items to consider for your Go Bag include:

  • Bottled water and nonperishable food, such a s granola bars

  • Cash, in small bills

Jennifer Garner, a liberal-minded actress who supported Hillary Clinton in the last election, has voiced her desire to work with Donald Trump to help impoverished American children.  Garner has been a longtime early education advocate for poor children in places like the West Virginia community where she was raised.  Garner has been a board member of the Save the Children nonprofit organization for almost a decade, which has brought her to Washington, D.C. on many occasions to advocate for underprivileged rural areas.

This past weekend, Garner went to the White House to continue her efforts.  Garner has decided to put politics aside in favor of asking Trump for help, she told The Washington Post, “If he’s willing to help the poor kids who got him elected, then let’s do it.  They certainly think he’s going to.”  Garner said, “I’m looking forward to helping him make good on what they saw as promises, a mandate from him, that he was going to make their lives better.”

Garner said many politicians she has met claim they will help with childhood funding, but don’t follow through: “Everyone’s nodding and couldn’t agree more, and shaking your hand and want their picture.  But when the vote is cast, nobody’s out there screaming and yelling for poor kids.”  Garner continued, “Send me a ticket to Mar-a-Lago.  I’m ready to go down and have a steak and a good chat.  I really think it’s great, if [Trump]’s willing to help the poor kids who got him elected.”

Garner’s work with Save the Children includes urging Congress and state governments to “fund reading and literacy programs that include all-day kindergarten.”  Garner said, “You just wouldn’t believe the number of kids who have never heard a nursery rhyme.”

The Washington Post reported Garner’s activities in D.C. over the weekend: “The 44-year-old actress spent the weekend lobbying the town’s pillars of power to support early education for poor rural children.  She spent Friday on Capitol Hill meeting dozens of top staff members.  On Saturday, she delivered the keynote address before the annual National Governors Association winter meeting here.”  Garner also had a planned sit-down with Ivanka Trump, but it was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.  The actress looks forward to making the meeting happen sometime in the future.

On Saturday, beloved actor and director Bill Paxton passed away at age 61.  A family statement was released: “It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery.  A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker.  Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable.  We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

Paxton was known for playing roles in iconic 1980s and 90s films including Aliens, Apollo 13, The Terminator, Twister and Titanic.  More recently, Paxton starred in TV series such as Big Love, Texas Rising and Training Day.

Amanda Seyfried, who played Paxton’s daughter in HBO’s Big Love, released a touching statement on the actor’s passing: “He was an amazing and supportive father-figure to me in my early career.  Incredibly inspired and full of life at every turn, he made you feel like everything was possible.  This is a terrible loss.”

Many of Paxton’s co-stars and other celebs remember him as a “kind” and “talented” actor, who was “one of the nicest people in the industry.”  THE WANNA has gathered some of the most moving tributes to Paxton below.

NFL Greats Make History By Launching Professional Football In China

The schedules are set, the arenas booked, the teams have hometowns, logos, names, coaches, and now the players have been added.

The China Arena Football League will kick off its inaugural season in October 2016 with six teams. It's been three years in the making for the CAFL and organizers have been determined to build a strong foundation. The historic league is the brainchild of very successful businessman Marty Judge, owner of the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League.

Judge has teamed up with partners and NFL Greats Ron Jaworksi and Dick Vermeil. Other team executives include former NFL lineman Ed Wang (VP of League Development); former rugby player, coach and developer David Niu (President, AFL Global), and the head of football operations, Ken Bozarth. Chief Executive Officer of the CAFL is Gary R. Morris, who is president of the Judge Group.

On June 10th the CAFL held the league's first ever player draft, which was streamed live around the world and was broadcast in English and Mandarin. Over 500 players have registered for the draft, including many current US AFL star players, as well as standouts from Germany, Spain and Italy.

The CAFL Draft Show was anchored in the US by veteran sports broadcaster Lou Tilley, who will be joined in the studio by football experts from both the US and China.  Ed Wang will serve as a studio analyst. The former Virginia Tech and NFL standout lineman is the son of two native China Olympic athletes, and heads the CAFL's Beijing office. Ed's brother David,  also a standout at Virginia Tech, is expected to be selected in the first round. Clint Dolezel, the current head coach of the Philadelphia Soul, who will coach the Beijing Lions in the CAFL, will join the studio analysis, as will former NFL player and current AFL coach Phil Bogle. Other special guests will include CAFL and AFL-Global founder Marty Judge, along with founding partners Ron Jaworski and Dick Vermeil.

The First Olympic Refugee Team: Champions Against All Odds

Caroline Slusarczyk

For 10 athletes at the 2016 Olympic Games opening ceremony in Rio on Friday, just walking out in front of a global audience of over a billion people, was a massive achievement.

For starters, they are not just world class Olympic athletes...They are refugees of war representing the first ever Olympian refugee team!

That means these refugees, quite literally, survived explosives, swam across oceans and walked barefoot through entire countries… and then went through extensive, vigorous training to eventually qualify for the Olympics!

Remarkable to say the least... Take 18 year old swimmer Yusra Mardini

Theresa Gonzalez/ Getty Images

Theresa Gonzalez/ Getty Images

In fleeing war-torn Syria, Mardini swam for more than three hours in the sea to get to Greece after the small boat she was on capsized.  In doing so, she and her sister also helped more than a dozen non-swimmers on the boat also survive the treacherous journey.

Mardini, who now lives in Berlin, topped her heat in the 100m butterfly yesterday on day three. While her time was not quite quick enough to qualify for the semi-finals, she took to Twitter to acknowledge her achievement.

“I want everyone to think refugees are normal people who had their homelands and lost them not because they wanted to run away and be refugees,” she says, “But because they have dreams in their lives and they had to go. A lot of people in Syria forgot their dreams and I hope everyone will follow their dreams to achieve something good in the future.”

You can see Yusra in action again in the 100m freestyle heats later in the week.

The Wanna believes Yusra is already a winner!

Effen Vodka

Thank goodness Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, is officially moving forward from his 2015 bankruptcy dilemma and back on the celebrity scene.

The rapper/actor is currently a co-executive producer and re-occurring character Kanan, on the Starz series, "Power."  50 Cent just announced this month, that he has a superhero-themed series in development with The Starz network titled, “Tomorrow, Today."

Despite Jackson's recent bankruptcy woes, he is still considered a successful business entrepreneur.  In 2007, 50 Cent was the richest rapper in hip-hop, behind Jay Z.   In 2014, Jackson announced he was part owner of, Effen Vodka produced in the Netherlands.  He currently endorses the product via his live concert performances and social media platforms.  50 Cent also promotes Effen Vodka by making appearances around the globe and this weekend he is scheduled to hit da Hamptons!

That's right, the famous rap artist is hosting a big event, "50 Cents Effen Hamptons Party!"  You will find Fifty "in da club" this Friday, August 5, 2016, at AM Southampton.

Question is, "How much will it cost to party with 50 Cent?"

General admissions tickets will set you back $50 bucks and include entry into the venue where 50 Cent is set to perform live.

For $2000.00 dollars you and seven of your closest friends will get an actual seat at a table, some where inside the club.

For $5000.00 thousand dollars ($400 per person) you and eleven of your friends will get the ultimate VIP experience which includes a table near 50 Cent, 4 bottles of Effen Vodka and 5 bottles of house champagne.  Proximity almost guarantees an autograph and a few memorable celebrity selfie-shots., Effen Vodka and 50 Cent?  Isn't this exactly the kind of networking experience you told your parents you would acquire on a summer internship in NYC?

If partying late night in da club isn't exactly your style, you still have a chance to hang with 50 Cent this weekend!  This Saturday evening, 50 Cent is also scheduled to attend an exclusive charity event.  Not a bad move on his part.  The rapper (who has since apologized) could use some good karma after his despicable "attack"  towards a 19 year old, Andrew Farrell, an airport janitor that suffers from autism.

This Saturday, August 6, 2016, the charity event, "A Night Under The Stars" will take place at the Campbell Stables on West Pond Drive in Bridgehampton at 6pm.  The proceeds are set to benefit several worthy causes including:  Starkey Hearing FoundationThe Needlers Foundation & the Long Island Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence (LICADD).  The event founder is Jason Zimmerman who initially partnered with friend and Executive Director of the Starkey Hearing Foundation, Brady Forseth.  Other notable guests scheduled to attend include:  Dacha Polanco (Orange is the New Black) and Verne Troyer (“Mini Me”).

This past Monday evening, pop star and longtime LGBT activist, Lady Gaga joined thousands of mourners in Los Angeles at City Hall, honoring the victims of the Pulse nightclub tragedy.

The iconic and outspoken performer gave an emotional speech and read off each of the names of the victims, while she fought back tears.  Gaga directed her words at the entire LGBT community and said, “I hope you know that myself and so many are your allies. Not only me, but everyone here. We represent the compassion and the loyalty of millions of people around the world that believe in you. You are not alone, you are not alone.”

In addition to Gaga's heartfelt speech at Monday’s vigil, she also posted on Instagram the photo below:

It’s no surprise to Gaga fans that she came out to support.  She’s been a long-standing advocate for the LGBT community for years.

In 2009, Gaga appeared on the cover of Out magazine and she used the cover interview as an opportunity to discuss her stance on LGBT culture.  Gaga revealed, “I very much want to inject gay culture into the mainstream.  It's not an underground tool for me. It's my whole life. So, I always sort of joke the real motivation is to just turn the world gay.”

In 2012, she created a video message and addressed Maine, Minnesota, Washington, and Maryland about the vote for marriage equality.  She says in the clip, “I just wanted to remind those of you who live in Maine, Minnesota, Washington, or Maryland that you can actually vote for marriage equality on the ballot this year,” using her fame as a popular musician to get the word out.  Check out the video here:

When the U.S. Supreme Court passed marriage equality in 2012, Gaga took to Twitter with a photo and captioned it, “#Lovewins over prejudice.”

Gaga's Grammy nominated song, “Born This Way,” sends clear messages of acceptance and appreciation for the LGBT community.  “Born This Way” was the first top hit on Billboard charts to include the word “transgenders” in the lyrics.

In March 2011, the pop star made a deal with Target stores in which she would only allow them an exclusive release of the Born This Way album if they ended dealings with anti-gay groups, and contributed to LGBT charities.  She stated, "Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they've made in the past ... our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they've made supporting those [antigay] groups."
